Serving God in the Community...

Our Story

The Agapé House origins began in Bristol Connecticut with a ministry known as The Hands and Feet of Jesus started by Eugene and Christine Thebarge in 2012. Through prayer they were directed to serving the homeless and people in need. Eugene would venture out to tent communities in the local area to provide a basic need and form relationships and to help lead them to Christ. Starting with fresh coffee and donuts they would approach these tight knit communities to help begin and build relationships. They began to bring reusable bags to bring groceries. Finding that some of their basic needs such as glasses or shoes were preventing an individual's opportunities that could be life changing.

In 2016 the Thebarges’ hearts were prompted by the Holy Spirit to begin praying for a building. The owner of a property they were praying for was led to offer a building to them rent free. One year later they were offered space in The Bridge Community Church. In this space a day center was set up, a clothing room, a resource room with life skills ministries which includes computers to help getting people who choose to go to detox a way to search for availability throughout the state, job search opportunities, applications for jobs and government benefits, write introductory letters and resumes, obtain lost ID’s and basic computer skills.

The Agapé House works to be a hub for connecting to other ministries and social services through the relationships we develop to service the homeless and needy in our community. We strive to be a hand up and not a hand out.
